They seem like little teeny-tiny insignificant grains upon first glance, but don’t be fooled! Chia seeds are among the most nutritious foods on the planet. In fact, they are one of the world’s best sources of several important nutritients. So start weaving those matching friendship bracelets as you get acquainted and get to know more about your new BFF!
1. You can count on them to give you strength!
The word “Chia” is the ancient Mayan word for strength. It contains twice the potassium of bananas, six times more calcium than milk and provides protein to fuel your muscles. In fact the Aztecs, Incas and Mayans would let their village messengers consume some chia seeds for energy and endurance before sending them of to far-away places to deliver messages. Imagine the wonders it can do for your workout and exercise sessions!
2. They always look out for your heart.
Isn’t this what we all need from our BFFs? Chia seeds contain highly concentrated amounts of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which as we all know is essential for our cardiovascular health. Regular intake can lower triglycerides, raise HDL or “good” cholesterol and reduce inflammation and insulin resistance which is why aside form caring for your heart, they make sure your don’t feel down or lethargic.

Despite their tiny size, they are so densely packed with protein, minerals and nutrients that you can literally take them with you wherever you go! Their size and the fact that they’re virtually tasteless makes your new best buddy so versatile. Pop some in your juice at the office or in your water at the gym. You can even take out a packet and sprinkle it over your salad or nachos when you’re out dining with your other friends… chia won’t get jealous, I promise.
